There are different types of trauma that can cause sexual dysfunctions for men and women . Let’s look at both.

Trauma to men

psychological effect of traumaTraumas are harsh on the male libido. When a male has or has had a broken penis the results are not good. There are psychological and physical causes for the dysfunction. When a male penis is broken the chambers that allow for blood flow into the penis which gives it the erection are actually ripped. When this occurs a surgery is required in order to attach the chambers back correctly. This type of trauma generally occurs when the partner is on top and comes down too hard or comes down fast at an angle to which the penis is not accustomed. The psychological affects of this type of injury is strong. It is hard to think of having sex again knowing that, this is the act that broke it in the first place. With a broken penis comes with psychological affects that can last a long time and may very well require therapy.

Some other instances of trauma would include when the penis and/or testicles are struck with enough force to do damage to them. Rape, is another form of trauma rarely discussed. Men , yes this can occur and it is very traumatic for men not only psychological but physical as well. We will not discuss how this occurs/ or can occur due to legal concerns. An issue that can affect a man, whether he realizes it or not is verbal or mental abuse done as a child, by an adult generally an adult of the opposite sex or someone in power. A person male or female who hears put downs and humiliation as a child or young adult can be affected for the rest of their lives.

Trauma to women

Females need to realize when playing around they have a very sensitive area and when this area is treated roughly it can develop tears. This area is the clitoris. The clitoris is the most sensitive part of the female anatomy, much like the head of the penis. For women some traumas are as a result of nature, for instance if a women gets a yeast infection it can cause short term dysfunction unless chronic yeasts are involved and then the women knows if she has sex she will most likely end up with a yeast infection. That is enough for some women to avoid sex all together. Rape is another trauma that seems to affect women differently. When a female is raped she will react in one of two ways, either she will not want sex at all or she will want it all the time. Either one is actually a sexual dysfunction. By all the time it is meant she would be ready, able, willing and would want to have sex multiple times a day maybe even would want different partners.

When a woman is raped the same as a man they feel as though they have no control over their bodies andtrauma decreases sexual desire some have fallen into other forms of control over their bodies, for instance some will overeat as a result where others will not eat and then again over eating with a binge result to follow. Rape is as much a psychological injury as it is a physical injury.

All injuries to the body/mind have an affect on the sexual side of the human whether they are long term affects or not depends on the person and type of injury. There is also a correlation between type of injury and whether or not you seek treatments for the injury.
